Battle ready

Guests looking at a Lynx helicopter

In our newest exhibition, 'Battle Ready', you are welcome to touch, climb and explore.

Climb inside an armoured personnel carrier from Afghanistan, stand behind a genuine machine gun, and get up close to a Lynx helicopter that has been used to combat piracy off the coast of Africa.

Armoured Protector
The armored personnel carrier (APC) was for many years one of the most important armoured vehicles in the Danish Armed Forces. Its armour protected soldiers against small arms fire and shrapnel. However, it proved vulnerable to mines and roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan. At the Danish War Museum, you can climb inside a real APC.

Pirate Fight in the Sky
The Lynx helicopter has, among other things, been used by the Danish Air Force to combat pirates in Africa. It is equipped with a heavy machine gun, allowing the crew to engage targets from the air. On its sides, the helicopter is painted with skull symbols, representing the number of pirate boats it has hit. See a Lynx helicopter at the museum.

The Hedgehog from Bornholm
The military vehicle Julkat served as the eyes and ears of the Danish forces in the Afghan desert. Fully equipped and armed, soldiers could operate for several days at a time, gathering intelligence about the terrain and the enemy. The armoured vehicle is named “Julkat” which is the Bornholm dialect word for hedgehog. Take a seat behind the wheel of a Julkat at the Danish War Museum.
Guests sit behind the machine gun in the armoured personnel carrier.

Explore for yourself

In the exhibition 'Battle Ready', you can get up close to the life of a soldier. Sit inside an armoured personnel carrier used by Danish soldiers in Afghanistan, or climb up through the hatch and take your place behind the machine gun. In most of the exhibition, you’re encouraged to climb, touch and play.
